Represented by our partner EDP, the AEROSUB project was featured at the 7th Edition of the Windpower Data & Digital Innovation Forum, organised by Leadvent Group in Amsterdam, on 26 and 27 May 2026.
The forum brought together industry experts, researchers, and technology leaders to exchange insights on the role of data and digital innovation in advancing the wind industry. The event highlighted emerging technologies and strategies aimed at improving efficiency, reliability, and performance across wind energy operations. The event also encouraged active participation, with interactive sessions that enabled attendees to exchange ideas, share experiences, and collaboratively address real-world operational challenges.
As part of the programme, Rodrigo Solipa, R&D Specialist at EDP, presented the AEROSUB project on 27 May. The presentation, titled “AEROSUB – Robotics & Intelligent O&M Optimization for Offshore Wind,” focused on how smart technologies developed within the project can enhance offshore wa bit moind operations. Key points from the presentation included:
- The deployment of fully autonomous robotic systems — including underwater, surface, and aerial units — to enhance inspection, maintenance, and repair activities in offshore wind farms.
- The potential to achieve significant O&M performance improvements, including up to a 40% increase in operational weather windows, while reducing emissions and intervention risks through automation.
- The development of an advanced O&M intelligence platform by EDP, designed to estimate maintenance costs and asset life expectancy using Remaining Useful Life (RUL) simulations and maintenance-report analytics.
- The creation of a scheduling optimisation tool aimed at minimising turbine downtime and improving the efficiency and speed of offshore maintenance operations.
The participation in the forum reinforced the relevance of AEROSUB in addressing key industry challenges and contributed to ongoing discussions on how digitalisation and automation can support more efficient, safer, and sustainable offshore wind operations.
